Christopher Smith Will p 442"
In the name of God, Amen this twenty third day of
February in the twenty Eighth year of his Majesty's Reign George
the second King of Great Brittain, Anno Dom 1755. I Christopher
Smith Junior of Scituate in the County of Providence in the
Colony of Rhode Island &c being well and in good health and of a
perfect mind and memory Thanks be given to God therefor. but
calling into mind the Mortality of my Body and knowing that it is
appointed for men Once to Die do make and ordain this my Last
Will and Testament. That is to say Principally and first of all,
I give and recommend my soul into the Hand of God that gave it
and my Body i recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent and
Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executor hereafter Named
and as touching such Worldly estate wherewith it hath Pleased God
to bless me with in this Life, I give Devise and Dispose of the
same in the following manner or form.
Imprimus I give and bequeathe to Ammity my Wife all the
Northern End of my Dwelling House that is to Say one room with a
fireplace in it and the Bedroom against it and all the Chambers
on the North Side of the Chimney and one Half Part of the Celler
that is under sd House and one third part of the income of my
farm and one third part of all my household Goods all to be and
remain to her so long as She Shall remain my Widow, but in Case
She should Marry again then my will is that she shall have one
feather bed and furniture and no more---
Item I give and bequeath to my son Gideon Smith the sum of
five shillings in bills of the old Tenner [tender, I think] to be
paid by my Executor hereafter Named------
Item I give and Bequeath unto my daughter Dorothy Aldrich one
Feather bed which was her Grandmother Smiths-----
Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter MARY WILBOUR the sum
of Five Shillings in bills of the Old Tenner to be paid by my
Executor hereafter Named-----
Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter RUTH WILBOUR the Sum
of Five Shillings in .....
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ammity Smith one
feather bed and furnature and one Case of draws and one Side
Saddle which is now bought for her----
Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Jeremiah Smith all the
Southern Part of my homestead farm wheron I now live and is
bounded as followeth: beginning at a black oak tree marked which
is the Southeast Corner of Casey's Land then East Nineteen
degrees North Sixty Seven Rods to the End of a Stone Wall then
East Two Degrees North ten Rods to a heap of Stones then East
Thirty five degrees North forty eight Rods to a Rock and Stones
Laid on it by the west side of the Spruce Swamp and from thence a
Straight line to the Brook that Runneth out of the swamp at the
Dam and bounding southerly on my land now Lieth until it come to
the first mentioned - bound to be and remain to him my said Son
Jeremiah Smith his Heirs and Assigns Forever.
Item I give unto my sd son Jeremiah Smith all my Blacksmiths

Item I give and bequeath to my Son Richard Smith all the
Residue and Remainder of my Homestead Farm with the Dwelling
house thereon Standing to be and Remain to him my sd Son Richard
Smith his heirs & Assigns forever.
Item My will further is that in Case if either of my sd Sons
Jeremiah or Richard Should Die before they attain to the age of
twenty one years and without issue then he that is living shale
have all the above mentioned Land to be and Remain to him and his
Heirs and Assigns forever---
Item my Will is that my sd Son Richard Smith Pay to my
Grandson Christopher Smith my sd Son Gideon's Eldest Son the sum
of five pounds equal to Old Tenner when he shall attain to the
age of twenty one years---
Item My will further is that after all my just debts and
Funeral charges and ____ are all paid, then the remainder of all
my Estate both Real and Personal that is not disposed of other
ways I give to my two sons Jeremiah and Richard to be Equally
divided between them.
Item I give and bequeath to my son Stephen Smith the sum of
five Shillings in bills of the old Tenner whom I likewise
Constitute make and ordain my sole executor of this My last Will
and Testament and I do hereby ___disallow revoke and disannul all
and every other or former Testaments Wills.... Witness Charles

And Mary Harris one of the Witnesses to the above Will
appearing in Council declared on Engagement that she saw the
Testator Christopher Smith Jr Sign Seal Publish Pronounce and
Declare the above Written or foregoing instrument to be his last
will and testament & that he was then of a sound and perfect mind
and memory and that she did at the same time subscribe her name
thereunto as a witness in the presence of the sd Testator and in
the presence of Charles Harris Esqr Now deceased and John Tracy
who being a Large distance off is not engaged.... Letters of
Administration granted on the 26th Day of November, 1781.
